Lessons on learning to read the Tarot
There are many aspects to learning the tarot for your own personal and spiritual benefits, and for helping friends, family and clients, if you read the tarot professionally. There is so much to learn, and I want to give you the best opportunity for mastering the tarot. Don't worry if you feel overloaded. What matters is your own perceptions and insights when you look at the tarot cards in a reading. Everything here is for you to ensure that your insights are valid, and that you have the confidence to take Tarot further than you could have ever imagined.
Tarot is brilliant for divination and magic and healing as it synthesises all these systems. Divination is the method you use to find out what can be done, and how to do it, while Magic is the technique used to ensure your desired outcome. In many respects Magic and Healing have similar aims - change and transformation for the better. You can use Tarot to divine, heal and perform magic, as well as self-knowledge.
The Supertarot Lessons are structured in four main sections:
- Tarot Meanings - individual cards
- Elemental Dignities - relating the cards to each other
- Tarot Spreads - putting it all together
- Exercises for you to practice
The Tarot Meanings are fairly obvious - you need to know what each card means. The importance of the meanings is that you recognise each card, and can say something about it. Memorising the meanings is not necessarily helpful, as the relationship between the cards is more important - when people watching you can say a lot about what kind of relationship exists between people without ever knowing their name. You act in relationships according to various social rules, and the tarot has its own small set of very simple rules that replicates human behaviour, known as Elemental Dignities. Many books on Tarot separate out the cards from the Spreads, but actually, if you know the secrets you will find that the cards themselves can perform the function of the Spread. There is only one tarot spread, the Opening of the Key Spread, that allows the Tarot to function in this way. With each lesson there will be one or two exercises to develop your knowledge of the Tarot.
