Exploring the OOTK Tarot Card Counting Technique

The tarot card counting technique for reading tarot cards in the Opening of the Key spread might seem a bit of a misnomer, for counting up to twelve is hardly arduous. The thing is, there are many subtleties to interpreting counting tarot cards that I have studied for many years, and I think it is time to discuss them in public.

Didn’t I write about tarot card counting in The Tarot and the Magus and Beyond the Celtic Cross? Of course! But in the course of writing the first book I discovered the concept of ‘uncounted’ cards, while in the second, it was by way of an introduction for tarot readers who are more familiar with the Celtic Cross.

What I am going to do is to go back to the original tarot reading for The Tarot and the Magus, and explore all four strings of cards. When I wrote the book, I did an analysis for all four strings, but the publisher sensibly omitted three, leaving only the Earth string.  In the process I am going to go back to basics – stripping out any dogma surrounding the tarot. I spend a lot of time deconstructing the tarot, and to do this, simplicity is the foundation upon which greater complexity is built, not the other way, which can only lead to confusion.

Tucked away in a corner of supertarot are the tables laying out the four strings, and my analysis will be on the sister site, newtarot.com, because what I will be presenting is new and original. I hope you will follow and make comments. In the process, I hope your understanding of the two books will deepen as a result, and your tarot readings will be more insightful.

Tarot on Brighton seafront

After nearly five months, I will be re-0pening my office on Brighton seafront. After I closed right at the beginning of December last year, the council offered me a new lease, but because of complications elsewhere, I did not receive the new lease until today. The place needs cleaning, decorating and new furniture, but I am hoping to open next weekend, if possible.

I still have my place in Camden Canal Market, and I will be doing the odd day or two in Camden Lock Hall – not sure how all this will work out, but its good to be back on the beach.

Looking forward to seeing you one way or another.

Predictions are only valid for the moment, not forever

How long do predictions last? There are plenty of people waiting for the Second Coming, or the impending Doom in 2012 from the Mayan predictions. I have no hesitation in telling you that neither these nor all those other popular predictions will happen, and I will tell you why.

History tells us that predictions have a habit of falling flat on their face. When did you last see a prediction coming true?
This might seem a strange place to make such comments considering that I am a Tarot reader, and making predictions is my stock in trade. However, I have noticed for many years that something funny happens with the nature of predictions. Continue reading

The Fool videos – compare and contrast

Part of the joy of putting things on the web is that you never know what will turn up as a result. The other day I was asked if my words on the Fool could be used in another video by Robert Henderson. I immediately said yes, not bothering to check how Robert would use it (it is about the Fool after all). The results are up, and I appear to have gone somewhat punkish. Can the next one have more Blondie please?

What do you think?

Why open my new tarot office on the 1st December?

For the last month my life has been in turmoil – I have known the lease on my seafront office in Brighton was ending in November, for nearly a year, but I had no idea where or when, or how I would find somewhere new. It was a journey into the unknown. Barely two weeks ago, and I was still clueless, but suddenly an opportunity came up in Camden Canal Market, near to Butterfly Tarot in Camden Lock Hall, London. I had to act quickly and three days later the contract was signed. I hoped to open a few days later, but delays kept things on hold.

The next day I was officially asked to vacate the seafront office… Something was up, but I had no idea what. The final day is the 1st of December, and I was hoping to make the transition several days earlier, but events conspired to delay proceedings. Now, this evening, I am waiting for Beryl to drive down to Brighton to pick up the furniture to go to its new home. The weather is cold – snow is falling, and likely to get worse, and I could see no significance, then this evening I received an email from Atlantis bookshop, and suddenly things made sense – there is meaning after all, and I doubt I could have planned things so perfectly.

So, what is so special about opening tomorrow in freezing temperatures and snow? The answer is simple – the 1st of December is the day Aleister Crowley died – known to afficionados as Crowleymass. I should have known! The perfect day to start a new tarot business, particularly for one who loves the Thoth Tarot deck. The omens look good.

No more tarot readings on Brighton seafront?

Yesterday I signed the contract for an office in Camden Canal Market, and today I am clearing out the office on the seafront under the pier. I guess the last day will be this Sunday. I will keep the mobile number but the landline will go. I will still be available for readings in Brighton by appointment only, and of course we can do tarot readings online by Skype.
